Ethical Media Architecture and Educational Technology (EMAET) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of its published scholarly record. Through Crossmark, EMAET provides readers with a standardized mechanism for identifying the current and authoritative status of eligible published content.
When Crossmark implementation has been activated, the Crossmark button will be displayed on eligible article pages and digital publication formats. Readers may select the button to determine whether an article is current or has been corrected, updated, withdrawn, or retracted.
Crossmark is a Crossref service that enables readers to verify the current status of a scholarly document and locate information about significant post-publication changes.
Crossmark records may also provide additional publication metadata, such as important publication dates, licensing information, originality screening, peer-review information, and editorial procedures, when such information has been deposited by the publisher.
Crossmark will be applied to eligible current and future EMAET content after the required metadata has been registered with Crossref. Covered content may include:
- research and development articles;
- corrections and errata;
- addenda;
- expressions of concern;
- retraction notices;
- withdrawal notices;
- removal or redaction notices; and
- replacement or republication notices.
Published when an error or omission affects the accuracy, presentation, interpretation, or understanding of an article without invalidating its principal findings.
Published when significant supplementary information must be added to an article after publication without replacing its original findings.
Published when credible concerns have been raised about an article but an investigation remains incomplete or the available evidence is not yet sufficient for a final decision.
Published when an article should no longer be regarded as reliable scholarly literature because of serious error, misconduct, plagiarism, unethical research, duplicate publication, or another substantial integrity problem.
Issued when an article or early publication version is withdrawn before it becomes part of the final scholarly record, with the reason for the action stated transparently.
Applied only in exceptional circumstances involving legal infringement, serious privacy violations, unlawful content, defamation, or a substantial risk of harm. Bibliographic information and an explanatory notice will normally be retained.
Used when an article requires substantial correction and a corrected version is formally republished. The original record, replacement notice, and corrected version will be transparently linked.
Minor typographical, formatting, or layout corrections that do not affect the interpretation, attribution, credibility, or conclusions of an article are not normally treated as Crossmark status updates.
Publication of this policy does not by itself indicate active Crossmark registration. The Crossmark button will be displayed only after EMAET has deposited the required Crossmark metadata with Crossref and established procedures for maintaining that metadata.
EMAET is committed to registering significant post-publication changes transparently and maintaining links among original articles, correction notices, expressions of concern, retractions, and other relevant updates.
