Allegationsof Misconduct

Allegations of Misconduct

NexaAssist Journal of Inclusive Technology (NAJIT) takes all allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously. Concerns involving submitted, reviewed, accepted, or published manuscripts will be assessed fairly, confidentially, objectively, and without discrimination based on disability, institutional affiliation, nationality, seniority, gender, religion, or academic status.

The journal is committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record while ensuring that allegations are supported by reasonable evidence and that the individuals concerned are given an appropriate opportunity to respond before a final editorial action is taken.

Forms of Research and Publication Misconduct

Misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data, participants, instruments, accessibility testing, usability results, or technological evaluation outcomes.
  • Plagiarism, inappropriate paraphrasing, or unattributed use of another person's ideas, words, data, images, software, source code, or intellectual work.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication and simultaneous submission of substantially the same manuscript to multiple journals.
  • Inappropriate authorship, including ghost, guest, or honorary authorship and unauthorized authorship changes.
  • Citation manipulation or the deliberate inclusion of irrelevant references intended to inflate citation indicators.
  • Manipulation, fabrication, or interference with the editorial or peer-review process.
  • Failure to disclose significant financial, institutional, academic, or personal conflicts of interest.
  • Unethical treatment of research participants, including persons with disabilities, or failure to obtain appropriate research approval, accessible informed consent, or necessary permissions.
  • Unauthorized disclosure or misuse of sensitive participant information, disability-related data, biometric records, recordings, or other confidential research materials.
  • Inappropriate manipulation of figures, images, transcripts, qualitative evidence, datasets, technical demonstrations, or software performance results.
  • Misrepresentation of research methods, technological functionality, accessibility compliance, participant involvement, or the actual contribution of an intervention.
  • Inappropriate or undisclosed use of artificial intelligence or automated tools that compromises authorship responsibility, originality, confidentiality, data integrity, or research reliability.
Misconduct in Assistive and Inclusive Technology Research

Given NAJIT's specialized scope, particular attention is given to allegations involving fabricated accessibility compliance claims, falsified user-testing results, misrepresentation of assistive technology performance, exclusion or misrepresentation of participants with disabilities, and unauthorized use of disability-related data . Technological claims should be supported by appropriate evidence and should accurately represent the limitations of the systems or interventions investigated.

Reporting an Allegation

Allegations of misconduct may be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief or the NAJIT Editorial Office. Reports should be made in good faith and contain sufficient information to allow an initial assessment of the concern.

Where possible, the report should identify the manuscript or published article, describe the suspected misconduct, and provide relevant supporting documents, references, evidence, or research records. Anonymous allegations may be considered when they contain sufficiently specific and credible information.

Editorial Contact
Confidentiality

Allegations will be handled as confidentially as reasonably possible. Information about the complainant, respondent, manuscript, supporting evidence, and investigation will be shared only with individuals or institutions whose involvement is necessary for fair assessment and resolution. Confidentiality is subject to applicable legal and institutional obligations.

Procedure for Handling Allegations
01
Initial Assessment
The Editor assesses whether the allegation falls within the journal's responsibility and whether sufficient information exists to justify further examination.
02
Preservation of Evidence
Relevant manuscripts, editorial correspondence, review reports, research data, accessibility evaluation records, and supporting evidence may be preserved for assessment.
03
Author or Respondent Clarification
Individuals concerned may be invited to provide written explanations, original data, technical documentation, ethical approvals, consent records, or other relevant evidence.
04
Further Investigation or Referral
When necessary, NAJIT may seek independent expert advice or refer the matter to relevant academic institutions, research ethics committees, research integrity offices, funding organizations, or other competent authorities.
05
Editorial Action
The journal determines a proportionate editorial response based on the available evidence, seriousness of the allegation, publication stage, and findings of any relevant investigation.
Possible Editorial Actions

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the concern, NAJIT may:

  • Request explanations, supporting documentation, original datasets, or appropriate corrections.
  • Temporarily suspend manuscript processing while the concern is being assessed.
  • Reject manuscripts when serious misconduct is established before publication.
  • Publish corrections when a published article requires an amendment to maintain the accuracy of the scholarly record.
  • Issue an expression of concern when substantial unresolved questions arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article.
  • Retract published articles when findings or the publication record are seriously unreliable or affected by major misconduct.
  • Notify relevant institutions, research integrity offices, ethics committees, or funding bodies when justified.
  • Take other proportionate measures necessary to protect scholarly integrity and responsible academic publishing.
Concerns Raised After Publication

Publication does not prevent subsequent investigation of research integrity concerns. Credible allegations involving articles already published in NAJIT will be evaluated and may result in corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or other appropriate updates to the scholarly record.

Editorial Conflict of Interest

An editor who has a personal, professional, institutional, financial, or other significant conflict of interest related to an allegation must not lead the assessment of the case. Responsibility should be transferred to another qualified editor or an independent individual capable of impartial evaluation.

Good-Faith Allegations

NAJIT encourages legitimate concerns regarding research and publication integrity to be reported in good faith. A complainant is not required to establish conclusive proof of misconduct before raising a reasonable, evidence-supported concern.

Knowingly false, fabricated, malicious, or deliberately misleading allegations may themselves constitute unethical conduct and may be referred to an appropriate institution or authority when justified.

Principle of Fair Investigation

NexaAssist Journal of Inclusive Technology (NAJIT) is committed to addressing allegations through confidentiality, impartiality, evidence-based assessment, procedural fairness, appropriate opportunities to respond, and proportionate editorial action. The purpose of this policy is to protect research integrity, uphold ethical standards, and maintain the accuracy, reliability, and trustworthiness of the scholarly record.
