Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

NexaAssist Journal of Inclusive Technology (NAJIT) publishes original research and rigorous review articles that contribute to the advancement of assistive technology, digital accessibility, and inclusive educational technology. The journal focuses on technological solutions, systems, applications, and research evidence that address disability-related accessibility barriers and support participation, independence, communication, and inclusive learning.

Authors must demonstrate a clear relationship between the technology under investigation and the needs of persons with disabilities, learners with disabilities, or individuals experiencing disability-related barriers. A general discussion of technology or special education without a substantive technological and accessibility contribution is insufficient for consideration.

Mandatory Scope Requirements
Every manuscript submitted to NAJIT must satisfy the following core requirements:
01. The manuscript directly addresses assistive technology, digital accessibility, or inclusive educational technology.
02. The study identifies a meaningful disability-related need, accessibility barrier, or participation challenge.
03. Technology constitutes a central research object, intervention, design component, or evidence domain, rather than a peripheral background element.
04. The article presents original research or a rigorous scholarly review within an accepted article category.
05. The manuscript offers a clear scientific, technological, methodological, or practical contribution to accessibility and disability inclusion.
Accepted Article Types
Original Research Articles
Empirical or development-oriented studies that present original findings about assistive technologies, accessible digital systems, or inclusive learning technologies. Approaches may include experimental, quasi-experimental, quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, design-based research, research and development (R&D), usability evaluation, accessibility testing, and case studies.
Review Articles
Rigorous evidence-synthesis articles, including systematic literature reviews and scoping reviews, addressing well-defined questions in assistive technology, digital accessibility, or inclusive educational technology. Reviews must use transparent search, selection, appraisal where appropriate, and synthesis procedures.
Relevant Research Approaches

Manuscripts Not Considered

NAJIT does not normally consider manuscripts that:

  • Discuss general artificial intelligence or software development without a disability-related accessibility application.
  • Address general educational technology without substantial relevance to inclusive or disability-oriented technology.
  • Discuss special education practices without a significant technological component.
  • Present a product description without adequate research methods, evidence, or evaluation.
  • Report superficial accessibility claims without sufficient documentation or analysis.
  • Present purely conceptual opinions or unstructured literature summaries without rigorous scholarly analysis.
  • Contain unsubstantiated claims, unreliable evidence, or material outside the journal's scope.
Manuscript Preparation

Authors should prepare manuscripts using the current NAJIT article template and applicable formatting requirements. Manuscripts should be written in clear academic English, present coherent scientific arguments, and report methods, evidence, and findings transparently.

Original Research Articles should generally contain Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Declarations, and References. Review Articles should include a clearly defined review question, search strategy, eligibility criteria, screening or selection procedures, evidence synthesis, discussion, limitations, and conclusions.

1. Title
The title should be concise and informative, clearly indicating the investigated technology, disability-related context, and central research problem where appropriate. Avoid excessive abbreviations and promotional claims.
2. Abstract
The abstract should summarize the background, objective, methods, study population or context, principal findings, and conclusion. Review abstracts should identify the review approach, evidence base, main synthesis findings, and implications for accessibility and inclusion.
3. Keywords
Provide relevant keywords that improve scholarly discoverability. Include terms reflecting the technology, accessibility issue, disability-related population, or inclusive learning context.
4. Introduction
Establish the research problem, relevant scholarship, accessibility or disability-related need, research gap, novelty, significance, and specific objectives or review questions.
5. Method

The method section must describe the research clearly enough to permit critical assessment and, where appropriate, replication. Original research articles should report:

  • Research design and methodological rationale.
  • Study setting, participant characteristics, and sampling procedures.
  • Disability-related needs or accessibility barriers investigated.
  • Technology, prototype, application, intervention, or accessible system under study.
  • Development framework, design stages, or implementation procedures where applicable.
  • Research instruments, validation, and data-collection methods.
  • Accessibility, usability, effectiveness, or other evaluation measures.
  • Data-analysis techniques and relevant quality-assurance procedures.
  • Ethical approval, accessible informed consent, and privacy safeguards where applicable.

For systematic and scoping reviews, authors should report databases searched, search dates and strategies, eligibility criteria, selection procedures, data extraction, evidence appraisal where appropriate, and synthesis methods. Relevant reporting guidelines, such as PRISMA, should be followed where applicable.

6. Results
Present findings or synthesized evidence clearly and objectively, supported by appropriate tables, figures, performance data, accessibility results, user feedback, or other relevant evidence.
7. Discussion
Interpret the findings critically, compare them with previous scholarship, discuss technological and inclusive implications, and acknowledge limitations, generalizability, and barriers to implementation.
8. Conclusion
Answer the research objective or review question, highlight the principal scholarly contribution, and identify appropriate practical implications and future research directions.
Tables, Figures, and Accessibility Evidence

Tables and figures must be numbered, captioned, cited in the manuscript, and presented accurately. Authors should provide meaningful descriptions or alternative text for informative visuals where feasible. Screenshots, interface diagrams, accessibility testing outputs, and assistive technology prototypes must be presented with sufficient explanation for readers to understand their relevance. Third-party permissions must be obtained where required.

References and Citations

All citations and references must be accurate, complete, and consistent with the current NAJIT manuscript template. Every in-text citation must correspond to a reference-list entry, and vice versa. Authors should prioritize relevant, high-quality research on assistive technology, digital accessibility, disability studies, inclusive education, and related technologies. Citation manipulation, irrelevant citation padding, and coercive citation are prohibited.

Research Ethics and Disability Inclusion

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable ethical requirements. Authors must disclose ethical approval or institutional permission where required, explain informed-consent procedures, and protect participant confidentiality.

Studies involving persons with disabilities should consider accessible consent procedures, appropriate communication support, voluntary participation, privacy protection, and respectful representation. Identifiable disability-related information must not be disclosed without appropriate authorization and consent.

Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted work must be original and free from plagiarism, fabricated data, undisclosed duplicate publication, and inappropriate text recycling. Manuscripts may undergo similarity screening in accordance with NAJIT's Screening for Plagiarism Policy. A numerical similarity score alone does not establish plagiarism.

Authorship and Contributions
Only individuals making substantive scholarly contributions should be listed as authors. All authors must approve the manuscript and accept responsibility for their contributions. Guest, gift, honorary, and ghost authorship are not permitted.
Conflict of Interest
Disclose financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that may influence the research or its interpretation, including relationships with technology developers, vendors, or commercial sponsors.
Funding
Disclose grants, sponsorships, institutional funding, and other financial support. Where no external funding exists, authors may state this explicitly.
Research Data and Evidence
Maintain sufficient research records to support the findings. Data, software documentation, evaluation protocols, and other evidence may be requested during integrity checks, subject to privacy and ethical restrictions.
Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies

Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, proper citation, confidentiality, and research integrity. When AI tools materially assist manuscript preparation, authors should disclose the tool and its purpose.

AI systems investigated as research objects, such as speech-recognition aids, adaptive accessibility tools, or AI-assisted communication applications, must be described transparently in the methodology, including relevant limitations and evaluation procedures. AI must not be used to fabricate data, invent references, conceal plagiarism, or compromise participant privacy.

AI Use Disclosure — Suggested Statement
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] for [PURPOSE]. The author(s) reviewed and verified the resulting content and take full responsibility for the final publication."
Double-Blind Review Preparation

NAJIT applies double-blind peer review. Authors should:

  • Remove author names and affiliations from the anonymized manuscript.
  • Remove identifying metadata from document properties where possible.
  • Avoid unnecessary self-identifying statements.
  • Place author details, acknowledgments, and identifying information in separate submission fields or files.
  • Anonymize supplementary materials intended for reviewers, including identifiable file paths or repository links where applicable.
Exclusive Submission
A manuscript must not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal. Authors must formally withdraw their submission before submitting substantially the same work elsewhere.
Language and Academic Writing
Manuscripts should use clear, grammatically accurate academic English. Language editing must not change the meaning of the research or misrepresent methods, data, findings, or authorship.
Open Access and License

NAJIT provides immediate open access to published articles. Under the journal's proposed open-access framework, published works are licensed using Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) . The final license must be consistent with the journal's official copyright statement and OJS settings.
