Technology for Disability Inclusion and Accessibility

NexaAssist Journal of Inclusive Technology (NAJIT) is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary scholarly journal dedicated to research on the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of assistive technologies, accessible digital systems, and inclusive educational technologies that address barriers experienced by persons with disabilities and learners with special educational needs.

NAJIT emphasizes technological solutions that enhance accessibility, communication, participation, independence, and inclusive learning opportunities. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research involving special education, educational technology, computer science, engineering, and disability studies, provided that the technological contribution directly addresses disability-related needs or accessibility barriers.

Core Scope
NAJIT considers manuscripts in which assistive technology, digital accessibility, or disability-oriented inclusive educational technology constitutes the central object of investigation rather than merely serving as background context.
Assistive Technology
Assistive devices, communication aids, adaptive interfaces, and technology-supported independence.
Digital Accessibility
Accessible websites, mobile applications, digital platforms, and disability-oriented user interfaces.
Inclusive Educational Technology
Adaptive learning platforms, accessible learning resources, and disability-inclusive digital instruction.
AI-Based Assistive Solutions
AI-enabled accessibility tools, speech technologies, intelligent assistance, and adaptive support systems.
Scope of Inquiry
01 · Assistive Technology Development
Design, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of hardware or software solutions supporting persons with disabilities in communication, mobility, learning, and independent activities.
02 · Accessible Digital Systems
Research on accessible websites, mobile applications, digital interfaces, and online platforms, including accessibility compliance and user-centered evaluation.
03 · Inclusive Learning Technologies
Development and evaluation of adaptive learning media, accessible educational software, digital learning environments, and assistive educational interventions.
04 · Artificial Intelligence for Accessibility
Empirical investigation of AI-assisted communication, speech recognition, image interpretation, adaptive interfaces, and intelligent technologies designed to reduce disability-related barriers.
05 · Universal and Inclusive Design
Evaluation of technology using universal design, accessibility standards, human-centered design, and participatory approaches involving users with disabilities.
06 · Assistive Technology Effectiveness
Studies examining technology usability, accessibility, effectiveness, user experience, and outcomes related to participation, communication, independence, or inclusive learning.
Research Context
NAJIT prioritizes research conducted in special education, inclusive schools, universities, disability support settings, and other environments where assistive technologies are developed or used. Research from healthcare, rehabilitation, workplaces, or community environments may be considered when its primary contribution concerns assistive technology or disability-related digital accessibility.
Accepted Article Types and Methods
NAJIT accepts original research articles and scholarly review articles. Eligible approaches include research and development (R&D), design-based research, experimental and quasi-experimental studies, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research, accessibility audits, usability evaluations, and empirical case studies. Systematic literature reviews and scoping reviews may be considered when they provide a rigorous and substantive synthesis directly related to the journal's core scope.
What Counts as Inclusive Technology?
For NAJIT, inclusive technology refers to technological products, systems, applications, devices, or interventions intentionally designed, adapted, or evaluated to remove accessibility barriers and support meaningful participation by persons with disabilities. A manuscript is not within scope merely because it uses digital technology, AI, or educational media. The disability-related need, accessibility barrier, or inclusive purpose must be explicit and substantively examined.
Outside the Journal's Scope
NAJIT does not consider manuscripts primarily concerned with:
  • General educational technology or conventional learning-media development without a disability-related accessibility purpose.
  • Artificial intelligence, machine learning, or software engineering without direct relevance to assistive technology or accessibility.
  • General special education pedagogy, curriculum, or teaching methods without a substantive technological component.
  • Clinical treatment, medical diagnosis, or rehabilitation research without an assistive technology contribution.
  • General technology adoption, digital literacy, or user satisfaction unrelated to disability inclusion.
  • Technology products that report only technical development without sufficient evaluation of accessibility, usability, or intended user needs.
  • Narrative discussions, opinion papers, or descriptive manuscripts lacking a clear research contribution to the journal's scope.
Mandatory Editorial Fit
Every manuscript submitted to NexaAssist Journal of Inclusive Technology (NAJIT) must satisfy the following requirements:
01. The primary research focus concerns assistive technology, digital accessibility, or inclusive educational technology.
02. The manuscript identifies a disability-related need, accessibility barrier, or inclusive participation challenge.
03. The research establishes a direct relationship between the proposed technology and its intended users or accessibility context.
04. Original research provides appropriate empirical evidence, technical evaluation, user feedback, or outcome-based assessment. Review articles provide a rigorous evidence synthesis.
05. The manuscript demonstrates a clear scientific, methodological, or practical contribution to disability-inclusive technology.
